Microsoft Edge will make it easy to share files between PC and smartphone

Microsoft Edge will soon have a new hands-on feature called Drop. It allows users to transfer their files to other devices on which the Internet browser is available.

Over the years, Microsoft Edge has acquired many additional features and the work of the American giant has obviously paid off as Edge became the second most used browser in the world. As of early May 2022, the Edge is offering a built-in free VPN, although it remains less effective than a standard VPN.

However, the next new feature to come to Edge will be file sharing. We currently have solutions for transferring files from one device to another. Users generally email their files or select Google Drive, which recently also allows you to use keyboard shortcuts to copy, crop, and paste.

Microsoft intends to offer another alternative to its users. As our colleagues from the Neowin website revealed, the American manufacturer is working on an in-house feature that will allow files to be shared between your devices where the browser is installed.

Called Drop, it will take the form of a sidebar where you can drag and drop your notes and files to change on your Android smartphone, for example. Of course, your Microsoft Edge account will need to be connected to both devices for this feature to work.

Note that the Drop function appears to be based on OneDrive, Microsoftcloud storage solution. Indeed, we observe in the column the amount of occupied and free space left. Additionally, Drop displays a QR code to download the Edge version for mobile devices. in case you are not yet using the browser on your smartphone. Unfortunately, it is not possible for the average user to try Drop right now.

This is because the feature is only available to users of Edge Canary 104. the latest developer-only version of the browser. However, as shown by the screenshots released for Neowin. If this is the case, you can enable Drop from the Appearance tab in Browser Settings.

Microsoft also tests the ability to import data from Google Chrome browser into Microsoft Edge each time a user launches the browser. At the same time, you can choose which items to enter. Includes bookmarks, browsing history, saved passwords, cookies, open tabs, and even browser settings.
