Motorola is preparing to present a new generation of folding smartphones. The company’s RAZR line is back with an appeal of nostalgia thanks to the design that resembled the old RAZR smartphones. However, that was not enough to make the device a huge success like the Galaxy Z Fold series. The biggest problems were the pricing and the unattractive specifications. While Samsung and others launched the collapsible flagship, Motorola unveiled a collapsible premium Snapdragon 7xx series SoC. Now, the company is back in the folding segment with the Motorola RAZR 3 in an effort to take a ride in the established folding category. Technology has matured and prices are falling, so is Motorola seems ready to start a modern folding with flagships.

Assumed Specifications Motorola RAZR 3

According to the popular Insider, Ross Young from DSSC, the device will come with a larger screen cover. This is something huge, it is set to a 3.0 inch diagonal. However, this is a decent upgrade over the 2.7 inches found on the Motorola RAZR 5G. In addition, the folding screen will also have a larger diagonal of 6.7 inches. This is also a small but notable upgrade over the 6.2-inch panel. According to the leakster, the screen will come from a China Star manufacturer.

Unlike its predecessor, the Motorola RAZR 3 will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. However, Motorola is also planning a variant with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset. The device will have a 120 Hz panel and we assume it will be an OLED screen. The handset will likely come with a fingerprint scanner mounted on the side and will allow users to take selfies by adjusting the main camera. The phone will come with a dual camera setup. Motorola really embraces the “modern” designs with the RAZR 3. The device will also have a more “blocked” design than its predecessor.

Motorola RAZR 3

This time, Motorola can create a real competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Samsung’s foldable smartphone will be released in August and similar to the Z Fold 3 will have specifications ready for 2022, such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips.

One of the big challenges that Motorola has to overcome is the size of the battery of this device. Previous generations of the Motorola RAZR had low battery capacity. Samsung is not able to exceed the 4,000 mAh capacity barrier with the upcoming Z Flip 3, so we do not know if Motorola will do it. Hopefully we will see something beyond the lukewarm capacity of 2,500 mAh. The device had already been revealed its design through leaked shots.
