Middle Eastern mobile phone company Zain Kuwait has announced the launch of Vo5G. However, this feature is currently only available for the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. This also means that the Samsung Galaxy S22, S22 + and S22 Ultra have become the first smartphones in the world to support Voice over 5G (Vo5G) communications. In addition, Zain Kuwait became the first company in the world to offer Vo5G services to smartphone users. Zain expanded its 5G network earlier this year after extensive testing. The company believes that it will operate with the highest quality nationally.

With the completion of the full standardization of the first phase of 5G, the commercial process of 5G networks began. When operators deploy 5G, in addition to factors such as the expansion of 5G network coverage and the maturity of the terminal ecosystem, they must also consider factors such as the many options for deploying 5G networking.

Huawei released the “Vo5G Technical White Paper” in 2018. Based on the advancement of Vo5G (Voice over 5G) standards and the advancement of voice and video coding standards, it analyzed the evolution of Vo5G in different 5G networks. At the same time, the development of IMS and the acceleration of the commercialization of VoLTE is the only way to move towards Vo5G.

The 5G voice solution will have some options

According to analysts, the 5G voice solution will face many options, such as VoNR, VoeLTE, EPS FB, RAT FB, etc. Huawei claims that the voice of the 5G SA scenario in 5G comes in two stages. At the early stage of network construction, the EPS FB transition scheme (5G returning to 4G) is adopted. When the NR coverage is wide and the network is optimized, the voice will be converted to VoNR.

The White Paper also shows that Vo5G is now standard with the 3GPP 5G standardization process. Vo5G should be based on IMS and VoLTE will become the main voice network in the 5G era. It will also work with Vo5G to ensure the continuity of voice services. Therefore, the development of IMS and the acceleration of the commercialization of VoLTE is the only way to move towards Vo5G.

5G development is still at top speed and this network still has many gray areas. Right now, China is ahead of the rest of the world. Unfortunately, cheap Chinese equipment will not be available in many nations, especially US allies. This is because they believe that Chinese technology poses a threat to their national security.
