Many people are not aware of the technologies used in smartphones or other consumer electronics. For example, most customers just take a look at a few features when buying a new smartphone. They do not even dare which process the processor uses, what charging speed the battery supports, what pixel size the camera has, etc. We assume that the vast majority of buyers only take into account what sellers put in promo teasers. But to make a better buying decision, you need to find out more about specifications. For example, do you know which manufacturing process is used in the current top chips? 4 nm! Do you know what that means? Well, this is the distance between two transistors in the SoC. But it is not easy to make a significant discovery in this area. For example, the 2 nm process will not start mass production before 2024.
TSMC 2nm process output
Before starting production, companies must build new production units. The latter will have to pass a lot of reviews. Among them, the most important is the one related to environmental protection. It turns out TSMC has submitted a 2 nm module construction plan for review. If nothing happens by accident, it will pass the environmental assessment in the first half of next year. Only then could the company begin construction of the plant. The first phase of construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Late last year, TSMC officially announced its intentions to expand the Zhongke plant. The latter covers an area of almost 95 hectares. The total investment should be NT $ 800 billion – NT $ 1,000 billion ($ 26.97 billion – $ 33.71 billion). In fact, there will be more than 4,500 new jobs in the early stages.
The most interesting thing is that the company has further plans. We mean that when you take into account the area of the new plant and the investment budget, it becomes clear that the 1nm plant can also be located there.
As for the test production time of TSMC’s 2nm process, it should be 2024. After that, the company will be able to start mass production in 2025.
